 Blogcatalog.com Review

Blogcatalog.com is a blog directory that allows unregistered users to search, rate and promote blogs. Registered users submit blogs to be categorized and placed in their respective directory by a blogcatalog.com representative.  Once a blog has been approved and categorized by blogcatalog.com, anyone can search for and view your blog.  My review of blogcatalog.com will encompass the searching capabilities, site layout and general use.

I found that blogcatalog.com is somewhat limited in its blog searching capabilities.  The reason for this is because a blog directory and only searches the blogs that have cataloged.  In addition, blogcatalog.com has no advanced search options, you can not filter your results, and has a small index.  Blogcatalog.com is good at searching the blogs it has categorized, but could be improved with more search options.

The layout and navigation of the site is good.  The text ads that are embedded into the search results are very annoying and somewhat unprofessional.  Ads with pictures are kept to a minimum.  Site navigation is good with a nice use of sidebars and tabs.  Registration for the site is easy and only necessary if you want to submit a blog.  I did not encounter any issues with server speed.  One feature that I really liked was the use of thumbnails next to each search result.

Blogcatalog.com has a limited number of blogs in its search index, because it is a blog directory and a person, not a computer, had to categorize each blog.  The benefit of a blog directory over a search engine is that you are more likely to find a high quality blog.  Overall, I found blogcatalog.com to be a user friendly website to search for blogs, whether using the search feature or just browsing the directories.
