Mamma, “the mother of all search engines” is owned by Copernic Inc.
It was launched in 1996, before most other search engines. It seems to connect to a plethora of different sources.
Databases:
Web: Connects to many different kinds of web pages.
News: Shows current world news
Images: Shows pictures.
Videos: Shows film that has been uploaded.
Yellow Pages: search for a business.
White Pages: Search for a person.
Ads: Paid advertisements under the “Sponsored Links” section.
Strengths Include:
· Reputation as one of the world’s longest operating Metacrawlers
· Easy to navigate site, with minimum clutter
· Relevant results
Neutrality Includes(Are these good or bad? You decide):
Weaknesses Include:
· Limited search features, no advanced search
· Mamma and Google go hand in hand
· Mamma does not have one of the largest sources for information
· Mamma makes it hard to find technical information about itself such as what search engines it uses and other technicalities such as what their default operation is, if they offer Boolean searching, Proximinty searching, truncation, or method of sorting.
Mamma automatically displays 15 results on the first page.
