My Yahoo! Review

Page history last edited by jeremiah 1 yr ago
My Yahoo! is an extremely easy to use RSS service. It is free to anyone with a Yahoo account. While limited only to content that Yahoo makes available, it is still gives you everything you would need or want without having to deal with HTML or setting up links yourself. When starting off, you go through a wizard that allows you to choose what content you want displayed on your personalized page. You can get weather forecast, preview your Yahoo email, theater times, have a calendar with alerts, get personalized news, sports, and even see your favorite comic strips.
The weather forecast can be set up for any city in the world. I did not notice a limitation on the number you set up, and all could be read at a glace. Whatever theaters you frequent can be set to appear with show times. The comic strips are nice because you can get them without buying a newspaper. Their onsite calendar was a little goofy to set up. Once its up and running you can set reminders of birthdays, bill due dates, appointments, or anything date specific. They can be set for email or as an alert when you visit the site. The most useful thing I found on My Yahoo was the ability to filter news articles to your interest. Another great feature is your favorite sports teams’ scores or team specific news can be included. It is simple to add or change content to your page even after you are finished with the wizard. You can also adjust where everything shows up on the page and pick from a variety of skins.
Blogs and email were the most limited features. There was no way I found to subscribe to a blog outside of a Yahoo user, nor was there anyway to add email from another site. Most people will not mind the limitations on content due to the momentous amount yahoo has available on their pages or partner sites. Someone with limited computer skills can still enjoy using an RSS without even knowing what the term is. I believe it is an excellent service and I now have it as my homepage when I enter my browser.
